Oeko-Tex webinar to discuss drivers of sustainability

Dr. Sam Moore from the Oeko-Tex Association will present a free webinar on June 3, 2015 at 12:00 Noon EST and will discuss drivers behind the sustainability movement in the global textile industry.

Dr. Moore will share insights for advancing sustainability throughout the textile supply chain and implementing rigid sustainability accounting methods to measure and report compliance.

According to an Oeko-Tex press release, the science of sustainability has moved well beyond just “doing the right thing” to requiring measurable actions.

This is necessary, it added, to meet the growing global demand for high quality products and manufacturing methods that are both socially and environmentally responsible.

“Textile companies with successful sustainability strategies should employ principles like transparency, checks and balances, scorecards and independent auditing that are required for financial reporting,” it advised.

“Sustainability requires a strong business case to ensure the long term commitment of the textile industry,” Dr Moore said.

“Rigorous accounting for a company’s sustainability practices generates the facts that textile companies need to substantiate their programs and quantify the financial, social, and environmental impact,” he too added.

“Just as financial accounting; independent, third party audits, certifications, and external oversight add immeasurable transparency and integrity to a company’s sustainability initiatives,” he explained.

Oeko-Tex offers a portfolio of assessments and certifications that covers all areas of concern and provides modern software tools to help companies manage and document their global sustainability strategies.

An expert in green textile chemistry and production, Dr. Moore will present the Oeko-Tex tools and services available to assist textile product manufacturers, brands and retailers.

”These will ensure comprehensive management and credible reporting of complex sustainability initiatives, especially in light of evolving global regulations and growing consumer and industry demands,” Oeko-Tex noted. (AR)
